A one-man-band basement album in shape only, Hickory Hop-To eschews tender acoustic ballads and (overt) relationship angst for a lively sound that's by turns artsy, raw, and madcap. Nuanced commentary dosed with linguistic abstraction gets beamed through complex arrangements of delivery-guy vocals, street-corner saxophones, a whole rainbow of guitar tones, ramshackle keys, MIDI magic, and a broad palette of percussion. It may confound, but it will not bore - and it just may delight lyrics-oriented listeners, rarity-loving contrarians, or any seeker who let a They Might Be Giants, Danny Elfman, Barenaked Ladies, or David Byrne elevate them from the trench of the radio. Listen and buy - it may not cross your path again.

The album name itself is a cross between the immediate and the pressing. There was a lot of wood panel in the place where I wrote it. Probably not hickory, but who cares. Hop-to is the impetus that pushed the album to be released - if you want it to be said or done, it happens now, in the 'hickory'.
